The Art of Peace 3

All things, material and spiritual, originate from one source and are related as if they were one family. The past, present, and future are all contained in the life force. The universe emerged and developed from one source, and we evolved through the optimal process of unification and harmonization. –Morihei Ueshiba

  1. We all are part of one universe. That’s not they way we usually think about the universe. Or, at least, not how thoughts of the universe and my existence naturally occur.

It’s as if I have these thoughts and they do not exist out there. They exist within my head and … my head (my entire existence) is somehow separate from the universe (everything that is not me.) That’s how it is for me, if I don’t give it much thought.

There is a shift in how the universe occurs when I simply note that I’m not separate from the universe. That’s not a huge leap. Consider this definition of universe from The New Oxford American Dictionary, “all existing matter and space considered as a whole.”

That includes me. And you. There is no way to not belong to the universe. To consider yourself a being apart from the universe is self delusion. And yet, in my experience, this is exactly how people think most of the time.

Consider that this me vs. all else is related to or contributes to the us vs. them paradigm existent in conflict. Once there is a division, the human condition drives us to prove that our side or my side is right, just, valid.

No wonder we sense that something is amiss in the world. People are burdened with thoughts of “I do not belong here”€ and “they do not belong here, either.”

I say it again, it is impossible to not belong to the universe. So, lighten up and join the party. It’s a perfect world. And so are you.
